Wounded Soldier Quilt Project

The guild members joined together to make lap quilts for our soldiers who have been wounded. They were sent to San Antonio with warm wishes and gratitude for their service to our country. Also made were quilts for the soldiers to give to their children before being deployed. There was room to wite a message on each quilt  We couldn’t be prouder of the men and woman in the Armed Forces.  If you want to make one of these quilts, we will send it off to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, for you.  Contact the guild at info@msqtg.org

“Thank You Quilters”

Many members of the Main Street Quilt and Thread Guild make quilts and/or afghans for wounded warriors and their children stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, as an expression of our gratitude for their service and sacrifice.  Our goal is to provide quilts and/or afghans to soldiers recovering from injuries, both physical and emotional.  The children’s quilts provide comfort to them while their parent(s) are recovering.  “Thank You Quilters” meet at Ready to Sew Bernina, 2800 Whitestone Blvd., Suite 225, Cedar Park, TX., (512) 260-4100, on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  “Thank You Quilters” is under the umbrella of “Bigger Than Us Ministries” so your costs and contributions are tax deductible.  For more information, please contact Audrey Winter at aw1858@sbcglobal.net or see the website http://www.thankyouquilters.org/.

“The Linus Connection”

Our members also participate in “The Linus Connection”.  Their mission is to provide a handmade security blanket to every child who is in a crisis or at-risk situation in Central Texas.  You can contact “The Linus Connection” directly at http://www.linusconnection.org.

“The Binky Brigade”

MSQTG member Helen Bokman recently read an article in Quilter’s Magazine about an organization called “The Binky Brigade” (website: http://binkybrigade.org/). The mission of “The Binky Brigade” is to provide small, cuddly blankets to children in war-torn countries like Iraq and Afghanistan . The binkies are sent from The Binky Brigade headquarters in Bellevue , NE to deployed troops for them to distribute to local children who see things everyday that we can’t even imagine! Guild members were very excited about this project and accept a challenge to bring as many binkies as possible to each meeting for the rest of the year.

All MSQTG members and non-members were invited to participate in this effort.  A total of 259 binkies and $90 were collected for this worthwhile organization!   If anyone would like to continue making binkies, The Binky Brigade organization will gladly accept any you wish to send them!
